Abstract
What do we know about data behaviours and needs of PhD students, especially in social sciences and humanities? How can academic libraries improve the research data management (RDM) of PhD students? How can they contribute to curation, preservation and sharing of research data related to electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs)? Which are realistic goals? The workshop will provide an introduction and overview of the field and help to better understand the challenge of RDM for academic libraries. It will describe the different RDM projects on the social sciences and humanities campus of the University of Lille, in particular the PhD training program and the development of a RDM infrastructure for the storage, preservation and sharing of research data related to ETDs. A large part of the workshop will be reserved for the discussion of the participants’ local initiatives, projects and questions.
Lector
On the workshop leader: Joachim Schöpfel is senior lecturer in library and information sciences (LIS) at the University of Lille, director of the French reproduction centre for PhD theses (ANRT) and member of the GERiiCO research laboratory (culture, communication, information, document). He was manager of the INIST (CNRS) scientific library from 1999 to 2008 and head of the department of information and documentation sciences of the University of Lille from 2009 to 2012. He is member of the French governmental committee on open access, of the NDLTD board of directors and of GreyNet International. He is teaching library marketing, auditing, intellectual property and information science, and he is author of more than 150 papers and communications on scientific information and communication, especially open access and grey literature, research data and dissertations, and academic libraries.
